Hey, crafty friends! Has anyone else grabbed any Black Friday deals? I made a few orders, and I just recently received my order from Concord & 9th! I love all of C&9’s unique and innovative designs! I grabbed this YOU ARE HERE stamp set that has these gorgeous florals arranged in a heart, along with some sweet sentiments that you can mix and match to create a personalized message.
After I opened up my C&9 happy mail, I immediately stamped out this image using my BRUTUS MONROE GILDED EMBOSSING POWDER. I love embossing an image before watercoloring. The raised edges of the embossing helps to contain the watercolors for a cleaner image.
After I had the image embossed on my AQUA PIGMENT PAPER, I colored it in using a number of colors in my AQUA PIGMENT COLLECTION. I did a live video on my YouTube while I colored this image. Here’s the replay if you’d like to take a look!
After the image was colored in, I fussy cut it out and turned my attention to creating a background. I didn’t want a background that would take away from the gorgeous colors of the flowers, so I chose to stamp nearly all of the sentiments from the set onto my card front using my BRUTUS MONROE RAVEN INK. I think the black and white card front helps the colors to pop, dont you?
I arranged my sentiment stamps on top of my cardstock in my MISTI, and then just stamped them a few times to get a nice impression. I then turned my cardstock around, leaving the stamps where they were and stamped again. This creates such a great patterned background! I had just one small gap which I filled in by arranging a few of the smaller sentiments and stamping those out as well.
I wanted to finish the card off with just a few embellishments. I can’t seem to call a card done until I’ve added a few sequins! I used my BRUTUS MONROE CRAFT GLUE to sprinkle several sequins around my florals, and then I also added a bow with a scrap of black twine.
Since the background is pretty much made up of sentiments, I decided not to add another sentiment over the flowers.
I love the bold look of how this card turned out! I hope this shows you how you can create a fun background with sentiments!
Until next time,
