Concord & 9th- Galaxy Roses- Brutus Monroe Surface Inks- Marie Nicole Designs

Welcome back! Today I want to share with you how I created these colorful galaxy inspired flowers using Brutus Monroe Surface Inks to color with! This post is also part of a blog hop so stay tuned till the end so you can hop along with all the Inspiration Team!

We are showing off the Surface Inks this week, and I wanted to share one of my favorite properties of these inks- they are permanent when heat set! This means that you can layer a variety of mediums on top and they will not run or muddy. They stay put exactly how you want them to!

The first thing I did was stamp out this lovely floral image by Concord & 9th. I stamped in EMBOSSING INK and then embossed in RAVEN EMBOSSING POWDER. I wanted the lines to stay crisp and dark, even with using a variety of mediums.

Then, I used my SURFACE INKS to add my colors. I wanted a more purple galaxy today, so I used HONEYSUCKLE, MARSALA, PLUM, and MIDNIGHT to achieve a galaxy by ink blending on all these colors. Once my blending was how I wanted it, I made sure to hit it with my heat tool to quickly dry and set the inks.

Then, to add some subtle and shiny stars, I splattered on some PEARL AQUA PIGMENTS. Since these inks do not react with water or liquids, the ink blended galaxy stayed right where I wanted it, and the stars didnt discolor by soaking up that ink pigment.

Next, I wanted to add a few detailed areas to my flowers, so I also colored over the inks using some PRISMACOLOR PENCILS. I used a bright blue around some of the flower petal bases, and I used some black to color the leaves. I did this so the flowers themselves would stand out a little bit more. That blue color against the purple also really made this pop!

Once I had my flowers exactly the way I liked them, I fussy cut them out and popped them up with some foam adhesive onto a RAVEN CARDSTOCK card base. I also added a few die cut leaves around the flower to help it stand out. The sentiment is from another Concord & 9th set. I die cut the word “friend”, and then heat embossed the supporting sentiment with ALABASTER EMBOSSING POWDER.

So that’s it! If you are a crafter who enjoys layering your mediums, Surface Inks may be a good fit for you! They blend beautifully but they can also be stamped and they even work for layering stamps! So many possibilities!
