July 2019 Stencil Release Blog Hop Graphic

Welcome back, crafty friends! I am so excited to be taking part in Altenew’s July 2019 Stencil Release! There are so many stencils in this release and they are all amazing!

If you are just joining the hop, feel free to continue on with the links below, OR head on over to the ALTENEW CARD BLOG to start there! Also, if you are interested in any of these items, you can find them all in the ALTENEW SHOP.

Ok, let’s move on to the cards! For my first card, I was inspired by the new DOILY FRAME STENCIL. This one is so gorgeous and I knew I needed to emboss in gold. I chose some navy blue cardstock because gold and navy is one of my current obsessions!

I applied some EMBOSSING PASTE over the doily stencil, and then carefully removed the stencil and washed it up. You can wipe down your stencils with baby wipes, or take them to your sink and wash with warm, soapy water. I definitely advise you to wash immediately before the paste dries on. Its a bit harder to get dried paste off stencils.

I then added some gold embossing powder over the paste, and then hit it with my heat tool.

This left me with a gorgeous, gold embossed doily circle that I could layer flowers over. I chose to use the stamp set, EVERLASTING HAPPINESS from Altenew. I stamped, embossed in more gold, then watercolored using my Zig Brush Markers. I then fussy cut the flowers, added them over the gold stenciled paste, and added a sentiment.

My next card takes a Christmas theme! Never too early for Christmas, right? I used the WONDERFUL WREATH STENCIL and ink blended the wreath onto some white cardstock. I used three different shades of green. I applied color, then wiped down my stencil and turned it a bit, and applied the next color. This gave me a wreath with several shades, and also filled out the branches a bit more. If you wanted to add more bling, you could also add some embossing powder or paste over the wreath, and emboss.

With my wreath all ink blended, I splattered on some gold using some shimmery gold watercolor. I then also added some red Nuvo drops for berries, and mounted the whole front panel on some foam adhesive over my card base. I also added some GOLD STRING WASHI from Altenew to the card base, so there is a little gold design peeking out from beneath the wreath panel. To finish, I added the simple “believe” sentiment from the EVERLASTING HAPPINESS stamp set, and also glued on a little twine bow.

Such a simple Christmas card, but one you could definitely make multiples of to send out during the holidays!

For my last card today, I used the BUBBLE WRAP STENCIL. This stencil is full of large circles that can create a fun, geometric background for your cards.

I used this stencil along with some dark grey ink and ink blended on the background. I wanted the color heavier on the left side, and then faded out into the right side. After my circles were ink blended on, I grabbed my BEAUTIFUL DAY stamp set from Altenew, and stamped some of the leaves and branches on over the stenciled background using my Misti and some Versafine black ink.

I then stamped and embossed the flower in some black embossing powder, and colored it in using my Zig brushes again. I wanted this card to be mostly monochromatic with a bold pop of red.

Once my flower was colored, I fussy cut it out and added it to my card base using foam adhesive. I also stamped out the sentiment, cut it into small strips, and added it to the card with more foam adhesive.

To completely finish this card, I added the front panel onto a black card base, and then added just a few flat-back pearls as embellishments.

Such great cards! I have never embossed over wet paste, but want to give your idea a try. The last card is my absolute fave, with the soft grays in the bubble wrap and that flower work, which is an awesome combo. Thanks for some amazing inspiration here today!
