Hello, creatives! I have been loving color block designs lately, so I have been trying to incorporate them into my card making. I thought that this month’s Glimmer Kit from Spellbinders would be the perfect addition to a fun and modern color block card!

Tape and Ink Blend

To start a color block background, I like to tape off straight lines with some painter’s tape. It helps if you know beforehand where you want your areas to be divided. I like to do a quick internet search for color block art for inspiration, and then I get taping! You can tape off one area, ink blend, and then remove the tape and use it again on another area.

***TIP*** Be sure to wipe off the leftover ink from your painter’s tape before switching to a new color. Otherwise, you will muddy your colors together and will not achieve a clean look!

Glimmer the Sentiment

This is the fun part! Go ahead and place your glimmer plate where you want it to be foiled. Then, add a piece of painters tape, and flip your plate over. You can then add your foil underneath and flip your plate back over it. This way, you create a painter’s tape “hinge” that will allow you to foil exactly where you want to!

I went ahead and foiled my sentiments with some blush gold foil. I ended up getting a little over-foiled, so I removed some excess foil by lightly erasing it with my Tombo Sand Eraser. The foil comes off easily. I added the supporting sentiment on foam adhesive on the side!

All that was left was to add the card front to a card base. I just used a little liquid glue, added to a folded card base, and was finished! I love the shiny sentiment on that bold, modern background!

Very pretty card. I’ve never tried this technique but I think I will now. Thanks and God bless.
